Assessment in second grade is aligned to the Common Core Standards. We utilize a grading system that ranges from a 1-4. I outlined how I define each number below:
1: Work is below what is expected at grade level. There are either many silly mistakes or a lack of comprehension of skills required to complete the assignment. In previous grading, I would estimate this to be a D or below.
2: Work is approaching expectations. Comprehension is mostly there, however there are a few mistakes that prohibit it from meeting expectations. In previous grading, I would estimate it to be a C/low B.
3: Work is meeting expectations. Comprehension of the task is at grade level. While there may be a few mistakes, they do not affect the overall assignment. In previous grading, I would estimate it to be a mid or high B/A. 3 is a great grade!
4: Work is exceeding expectations. The work completed is above the second grade level. In previous grading, I would estimate it to be an A+. Achievement of this grade is rare!
If there are ever any questions about grades, please ask. I am more than willing to share my thinking with you!
